EU folks: a certified dispute body ruled in my favour and Meta restored my IG (long, hope it helps)

Writing in English because I'm Polish, living in Berlin, and this board is more active in English. Disabled in May for violence and incitement. I'm pretty sure it was a comment under a football post where I wrote something like 'I will kill him' about our own goalkeeper. A joke obviously, everybody who watched that match would understand. Steps: 1. In-app appeal, rejected next day. 2. Looked up which certified out-of-court bodies cover Instagram (the European Commission has a list). Appeals Centre Europe excludes some categories, so read the scope first. I went with User Rights because it covered my case and works in English. 3. Filed online. Uploaded screenshots of the notice and the rejected appeal and explained the context of the comment. 4. Took about 2 months. Decision: the suspension was not justified. 5. Important: their decision is NOT binding on Meta. I just waited. About 10 days later the account was back. I don't want to oversell this. Going by the Appeals Centre Europe numbers from May, only a small part of the account suspension disputes they got had actually been decided by end of March. I was lucky mine was one simple comment. But it costs nothing and it's a real route, so if you're in the EU try it before you give up.

  1. Thanks for this! Did you need a lawyer for the form? My English and German are both ok but legal stuff scares me
    1. @Lena no, normal online form, plain language. Be clear and attach screenshots, that's it.
  2. Bookmarked. I'm in NL but mine is 'account integrity' so I need to check which body actually takes that.
