Anyone actually tried small claims against Meta? (Ohio)

Coop from the March wave thread. Still disabled, going on 5 months. I've done every in-app thing, AG complaint, FTC report. Now I'm reading about people taking Meta to small claims. What I think I know (correct me): - a cafe owner in New Hampshire won a small claims case back in 2024, I think it was $100 plus costs - some people say Meta contacted them and restored the account before the court date, others say their case got dismissed - people argue about whether the terms say you have to go to court in California. I haven't read them properly yet Questions: 1. Has anyone here actually filed? What did it cost and how did you serve them? 2. Did you ask for money or for the account back? Can small claims even order that? Not trying to get rich. I just want my photos and my page back.

  1. Filed in Michigan last year over a hacked account. Filing fee was under $100 in my county but it varies a lot by state. Small claims here can only award money, so I asked for the value of what I lost. About 2 weeks before the date someone from Meta's side contacted me and the account was restored, and I dropped the case. That's just my case though, I know people it didn't work for.
  2. @J.R. that's encouraging. how did you serve them?
    1. Through their registered agent. Look up the company on your state's business entity search, it lists the agent. The court clerk walked me through the rest, they get asked this constantly.
  3. if they dont show up you automatically win and they HAVE to give the account back
  4. @mike d. not really. If they don't show you might get a default judgment for money, but that's not the same as an order to restore an account, and they can still challenge things like venue. Nothing about it is automatic.
  5. Mine (Washington state) got dismissed, the judge wasn't convinced on jurisdiction. So yeah, mixed. Still glad I tried.
  6. Update: read the terms, talked to the clerk, filed in September. Court date is in December. Nothing from Meta yet. Will report back.
