Kia ora all. Posting because when I was searching for answers I mostly found horror stories, so here's a good one for a change.
On 24 March Instagram asked me to 'confirm you're a human'. I'd just got a new phone and set it up from scratch, which I now think is what set it off. It wanted a video selfie. Problem: my profile is 90% tomatoes and silverbeet and maybe 3 photos of my face, all from 2019 and all in a sun hat.
First go was in my kitchen at night, which is dark as, and it said 'we couldn't confirm'. Tried again the next morning by the window, glasses off, hair back, turned my head slowly when it told me to. Then it sat on 'we're reviewing your info' for over 3 weeks. Nothing else. I did NOT resubmit - someone on here said that might push you to the back of the queue. No idea if that's true but I wasn't going to risk it.
This morning I could log in. Everything's still there, even my 400 photos of courgettes.
Lessons: put a couple of clear photos of your own face on your profile while you still can, try not to change everything at once (new phone + new wifi + new location), and breathe. It's not always the end.
