Since 28 March 2026, Indonesia’s PP Tunas regulation has suspended access by under-16s to high-risk platforms, and Meta has been deactivating accounts it identifies as belonging to children in phases. Adults wrongly flagged as children can follow the age-verification instructions in Meta’s notice, and the Yogyakarta provincial government warns about fake ‘blue tick’ verification offers.

Under PP 17/2025 (PP Tunas) and Ministerial Regulation 9/2026, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) asked Meta to speed up deactivating accounts of users under 16, with a target of 31 December 2026. Meta had reported deactivating about 184,000 accounts of users under 13 between 28 March and 27 May 2026.

Scam warnings

The Yogyakarta provincial communications office warned about fake ‘blue tick’ sales promising verification within 24–72 hours for hundreds of thousands to millions of rupiah, direct messages impersonating Instagram partnerships, and impersonation of friends. It says official verification is available only through the app’s own process and that one-time passwords and two-factor codes must never be shared.
